Vacuum Cleaner Review The
Hoover U8183900 Savvy Turbo Power 2-in-1 Bagged and Bagless Upright is a
well-priced machine at around $250 dollars and includes a 2 year warranty.
It has a bagged and bagless system and comes complete with a wand crevice
tool, turbo brush and square brush. This is a larger size vacuum cleaner
with a 15 inch cleaning path and 2 refuse tanks. One of the refuse tanks
takes HEPA bags for assured air quality and the other is bare for larger
cleaning jobs. Both refuse tanks are larger capacity, allowing the operator
to use the machine for a longer period of time before needing to empty the
tanks. The tanks are also see-through for gauging how full they are, saving
the operator time by not needing to be checked continuously.
There are some very helpful features on this machine, including a headlight
for dark areas. The Hoover U8183-900 has a closed handle design for easier
carrying and for maintaining a firm grip. The switch on the upper part of
the handle allows for easy on and off operation. The see-through compartment
on the front of the unit allows for the easy storage of tools and for easier
access to those tools. As mentioned, a turbo brush is one of the tools
included with this machine and is like having a mini full size vacuum
cleaner in your hand. This hand tool is particularly helpful for cleaning
upholstery and drapery and utilizes a suction turbine system to turn on the
beater bar on the hand tool. The turbo brush and square brush tools store
neatly in the machine and the wand and crevice tool store on the side out of
the way.
Other nice features on the Hoover U8183-900 include a carpet height
adjustment knob on the lower base of the unit for both carpet and bare floor
adjustment and rubber coated wheels for smooth operation, no scratches and
no slipping. The 3 position handle is convenient for vacuuming under objects
and can even lower to the floor in order to clean under beds. There's a
carrying handle on the back of the refuse tank for carrying and lifting. The
HEPA filter cartridge snaps in for easy replacement.
There are some drawbacks to the Hoover U8183-900. Probably the biggest issue
is with the open belt design which makes it easier for objects like paper
clips and staples to sever the belt. Belt replacement can take up to 10
minutes and can be a hassle. Likewise, replacing the roller is time
consuming as there are seven screws that need to be removed in order to gain
access. Other problems may arise due to the design and location of the hose,
which comes up from the lower unit and wraps around the handle on the back
of the vacuum cleaner. The resulting large bend in the hose could cause
clogging over time and blockages can be common on the handle due to the
restricted airway. Other issues include the HEPA filter, which needs to be
replaced instead of just rinsed, and the fact that the protection plate on
the underside of the vacuum is plastic, not metal.
Overall, the Hoover U8183-900 (available in nice dark gray colors) is a good
vacuum cleaner for the price. Although it is a larger and more cumbersome
machine to use, it certainly has enough features that make it a smart choice
for a variety of jobs.
