I have been using a hoover vacuum cleaner in my house for a few years now and now the motor has failed and i need to buy a new one. I looked into the cost of these motors and they are expensive, almost half of what i paid for the vacuum cleaner itself! Is it worth purchasing a new motor or should i just buy a whole new unit?

In my opinion, I think you'd be better off buying a new Hoover vacuum cleaner. Residential Hoovers are pretty cheap compared to other vacuums on the market. If you buy a new motor, later down the road something else may go wrong with your Hoover and you might end up paying more in the long run. 2) Does the brush roller turn smoothly (Brush bearings in good wear)
Old vacuum cleaners can aquire buildup of foods and pet hair and start to smell (A new vacuum smells good out of the box)
3) Does the on/off switch function correctly
4) Is your vacuum cord in good shape

These 4 items can nickel and dime you to death down the road, so make sure these areas are in good shape.
