Hi. I I have a Kenwood Canister type Vacuum Cleaner. It has only been used twice. The third time I tried to use it, it started to surge up and down, creating an Ozone type smell. I think there may have been blue sparks too. It got worse when I used the variable power slider up and down. I would like to effect repair on it myself, but can find no articles online.

Does anybody know what the problem might be? The motor is rated at 1600 watts AC.
